Arid Regions Conference Challenge |
|
WHERE IS IT? Just about everybody that will attend the Arid Regions Conference knows what an alluvial fan is, but not all alluvial fans are easy to identify in the field. Below however (you may need to scroll down), is an aerial photograph of a superbly shaped alluvial fan somewhere in the Arid Southwest. The challenge presented here is to determine where the fan is, and to find the coordinates of the point indicated by the arrow.
Find the Latitude and Longitude in Degrees, Minutes, and Seconds (example N39 28 23, W106 03 07) and submit them below (the example coordinates are the coordinates of the Beaver Run Hotel in Breckenridge) Each correct entry (within ±5 seconds) will be entered into a drawing to be held during the conference awards dinner. The prize is yet to be determined. You must be present to win. One small hint, once you determine the general location of the fan, you may find Google Earth to be helpful in determining the coordinates. Good Luck!
