ITEMS DISCUSSED
1. September Conference Planning
As of today 11 individuals have registered for the conference and 0 for golf.
The Vail Cascade Hotel & Club has been handing out the more expensive rooms
first ($85/night) rather than the less expensive rooms first ($75/night). A call
was made to the hotel to reverse this process and it has been reversed.
2. IRS/Liability Study Results
Doug handed out an informational letter (General Guidelines for Package Policy
for Association) received from Van Gilder Insurance Corporation with regards to
Property and General Liability Insurance for the CASFM organization to cover
such things as conferences and workshops. This type of insurance is required by
the Vail Cascade Hotel & Club. It was agreed to proceed with obtaining insurance
for the organization at a cost of $ 500 - $ 1000 per year. Doug will contact
Mark Glidden and have him proceed to obtain insurance for the organization.
Brian has had difficulty obtaining mailing labels from the Colorado Riparian
Society membership and will now be sending the conference brochures to the
organization for distribution themselves. Brian will follow up on the Colorado
Riparian Society trailer display for use at the conference as an outside
attraction.
Brian provided a conference speaker update and everyone is on track for the
conference. We discussed the appropriate conference fee for speakers and arrived
at the following conclusions:
a. A conference speaker attending a whole day of the
conference will pay $ 50/day to cover the cost of meals and refreshments.
b. A conference speaker attending the whole conference
will pay the going rate as other individuals attending the conference.
c. A conference speaker attending the conference for
only his/her speaking part will not be required to pay any money.
Brian will work on selection/invitation of conference moderators for each
session and invite non-officers to participate.
Susan explained that Brad Anderson is working on the conference notebook. Mark
Glidden is working on arranging entertainment for the conference dinner.
Everything is set for the field trip according to Mike. John indicated that 10
nominations have been submitted for the awards competition and he is looking for
help judging the nominations.
Doug indicated that 8 vendors were currently signed up and the conference has
room for 15 vendors. Anyone is welcome to help attract in additional vendors
(contact Doug for a current list of vendors).
A second notice of the conference will be mailed out on July 26th by Kevin upon
receiving a flyer from Susan on the conference and a 1996/1997 Officer and Area
Representatives Nominations ballot from John P.
On August 19th at 9:00 am a special conference update meeting will be held at
the City of Fort Collins Stormwater Utility to coordinate last minute items.
3. Flood & Stormwater Committee News
On June 27, 1996 a field trip/meeting was held at Rocky Flats. Eleven individuals were in attendance and observed sampling equipment, Women's Creek Reservoir, and various other interesting items within Rocky Flats.
4. Community Benefit Program
Brian explained that two people are helping assemble all of the pieces for the
Community Benefit Program so he can then present it to the CASFM Board. At this
time Brian is waiting for the two people to provide him the materials they have
promised him. Brian will contact these two people in order to receive the
remaining materials (and Brian has also been very busy this summer)
Larry brought up the Buffalo Creek flood of recent and indicated that the area
received 2-3 inches of water within a 45 minute time period causing a water
depth of 6-7 feet in Buffalo Creek. Larry explained that the FEMA hydrology for
the area indicated 600 cfs and the area received between 8000-9000 cfs of water
during the flood. Flood flows were 5 feet above the downstream gaging station.
Larry asked for volunteers from CASFM for an upcoming town meeting on July 22nd
in the evening as he will be in attendance to speak on behalf of CWCB.
5. Membership and Treasurer's Report
There are currently 180 paid members. In summary the CASFM organization
currently has $32.01 in the savings account and $11,296.93 in the checking
account.
6. 1996/1997 Officer and Area Representatives Nominations
1996/1997 nominations were discussed and it was concluded that John P. would
contact individuals who have been active in CASFM committees and seek additional
individuals to add to the ballot for the various positions within CASFM. When
John has the ballot completed he will forward it to Kevin for mailing to the
CASFM members.
7. ASFPM Conference News
CASFM received a questionnaire from the Association of State Floodplain
Managers, Inc.. The questionnaire is related to State Chapters. The
questionnaire was reviewed and comments suggested to help complete the form
including writing in suggestions where blank lines were available. John P. will
complete the form and send it in.
