ITEMS DISCUSSED
1. 1997 CONFERENCE
Susan handed out the conference registration form and the group reviewed the
form. Mike Armstrong is scheduled to be the keynote speaker and the group
discussed paying for his airplane ticket and hotel room cost. It was agreed to
pay for Mike's airplane ticket and hotel room, but try and get someone to pick
him up at the airport and take him up to Vail in order to save the cost of a
rental car. Susan will work on this effort.
2. Ballot
The election of 1997-1998 officers was discussed. Craig will call Jody Kliska to
see if she will continue as the northwest regional representative. Brian will
research a regional representative for the southwest area. Craig indicated he
would like to run for Secretary. Craig will look for a new northeast regional
representative. Susan indicated she would like to run for Chair Kevin indicated
he would like to run for Vice Chair. Walt previously indicated he would like to
run for Treasurer. John P. will call Chip to see if he would like to continue as
Editor. Doug T. would like to continue as the Stormwater Committee Chair. John
D. would like to continue as the Flood Committee Chair. John P. will get an
official election ballot to Kevin the week of July 21st for mailing to all CASFM
members. There were no other interested CASFM members for the 1997-1998 ballot
positions.
3. Flood/Stormwater Committee
A joint flood/stormwater meeting was recently held in June. Bob Deeds at the
City of Littleton help organize the field trip. The group of 19 people visited a
constructed wetlands, a 25 foot high drop structure, and the C470 S. Platte
River drop structure.
4. Workshops
All three CLOMR/LOMR workshops were successful as approximately 55 people
attended the Greeley workshop, approximately 25 people attended the Grand
Junction workshop, and approximately 22 people attended the Pueblo workshop,
John discussed the project awards competition and the announcement will be
coming out the week of July 21st. The winners of the project awards competition
will need to be selected and notified before the end of August in order for
preparation time before the conference.
The group discussed music for the awards dinner. It was agreed to rent a CD
player from the hotel. John P. is in charge of the CD's to be played during the
dinner. Mark Glidden is in charge of reserving the CD player with the hotel.
A meal ticket will be given to each person attending a workshop on Tuesday
afternoon. Without a workshop meal ticket, no lunch will be provided to those
not attending a workshop.
Kevin will be in charge of the registration table. Doug W. and Dave may possibly
help Kevin with the registration table. Kevin will work on additional staffing
of the registration table.
Craig mentioned the bi-laws indicate that the CASFM organization needs a Student
Representative. The group discussed this concept and the concept of reaching
into local universities to draw upon students for membership in CASFM. This
concept will be explored further at the next general planning meeting.
John D. will work with Craig to place more boxes on the membership renewal form
this fall to add more descriptions for these committees.
Doug T. is working on a joint field trip of CASFM members and the Mountain
States Chapter of the International Erosion Control Association. The field trip
is titled "What does mother nature have to say about wildfires, floods, and
hydrology?". The field trip will include the Buffalo Creek area and is scheduled
for August 13th from noon until 4:00 pm. An announcement will be mailed out to
all CASFM member the week of July 21st.
A future workshop topic could include "How do you develop a plan for your
community?"
Brad Anderson prepared a handout titled "Series of Workshops/Short
Courses/Seminars" which was handed out and the group reviewed. Brian and John P.
indicated an interest in teaming to work on developing this list of topics into
actual events. Some of these workshops/short courses/seminars could involve
university class rooms and university staff. Colorado State University (CSU) is
interested in teaming with CASFM on future workshops/short courses/seminars and
providing CSU staff.
