The following is a summary of the
interactions, comments and items discussed. While this summary is not intended
to represent a complete or comprehensive account of the meeting, it is intended
to reflect the salient points raised and issues for further consideration.
Should the attendees believe that anything may be misrepresented or misleading,
please bring this to the attention of David Krickbaum, CASFM Secretary.
1. Secretary Report - David Krickbaum
A quorum was present, with Stuart Gardner as a proxy for Trent Prall. The
minutes for the May 14, 2004 meeting were approved, by a motion and vote.
2. Treasurer Report – Stuart Gardner for Trent
Prall
Brad Anderson reported that the past due amount from last year’s conference has
been resolved.
3. Regional Representatives’ Reports
Debbie Haferman reported that the Northeast region would have a bike tour along
St. Vrain and Left Hand Creeks on July 29th.
4. Committee Reports
a) Floodplain – Stuart Gardner asked whether CASFM was on ASFPM’s schedule to
proctor the CFM exam. He reported that Kallie Sampish is checking into this.
Kallie will not be able to attend the conference and is looking for help to
proctor the exam. Chris Tagert and Erin Ansell have volunteered to help.
b) Stormwater Quality (Kevin McBride) – The Water Quality bus tour will be on
July 23rd. The cost is $25. The tour will start at Stapleton. The itinerary is
evolving. Information will be posted on the website.
c) Scholarship (Jeremy Franz) – The committee is working on this year’s
scholarship award.
d) Outreach – No report was made.
e) Membership (Kevin Gingery) – To date there are 550 members. Federal contact
information has not been received in order to promote CASFM membership to
Federal employees.
f) Website (Stuart Gardner) – The calendar, conference information and
membership roster have been updated. The membership search has been changed so
it is more functional.
5. Workshop & Seminars - Kevin Gingery
23 participants attended the countermeasure workshop. There were 21 participants
for the Urban Drainage workshop. It appears that there does not appear to be as
much interest in the Federal Highway’s workshops this year. This year’s
workshops have been successful and within budget.
6. 2004 Conference
The final program was distributed and reviewed. The brochure will be mailed in
the next couple of weeks. The moderators for the technical sessions have been
set. The plenary session has not yet been finalized.
7. Newsletter – Jamie Cribbs
The newsletter is at the printer.
8. Other Items not on the Agenda
Dr. Guo’s scholarship donation has not been received. Debbie Haferman will
follow up.
The Treasurer’s Report was presented and was approved by a motion and vote.
The Northwest Region has a field trip planned on July 30th. Details are posted
on the website.
Jamie Cribbs noted that Steve Smith, Metro Regional Representative had moved to
Parsons. He is looking for ideas for a metro social. He can be called directly.
No other regional representatives were present.
Julie Constan is the alternate for CASFM’s seat on the Colorado Non-point Source
Council.
The committee has been looking at how to handle donations that are made to the
scholarship fund. They explored creating an endowment. However, it would take a
big effort the raise the initial funds. Other possibilities included creating an
additional scholarship, and accruing the funds until the funds necessary for an
additional scholarship are available.
Stuart Gardner suggested a silent auction to raise scholarship funds. The
auction could be held at the annual conference. After discussion, it was agreed
to discuss the idea of a silent auction during the general membership meeting at
the conference.
The committee is made up of 3 people. One is leaving. A replacement is needed.
Chuck Childs, Rick Moser and Tom Browning were mentioned as possibilities.
Kevin Houck reported that the CWCB would offer “Floodplain Management 101” on
August 24th in Montrose, August 25th in Glenwood Springs, August 26th in
Colorado Springs (this is a change from Pueblo), and August 27th in Greeley.
The Steamboat Sheraton has been booked for the 2005 conference. Locations for
the 2006 conference are being explored.
Six submittals were received for the project awards. Eleven exhibitor booths
have been sold.
David Mallory will be on the ballot for treasurer. David Thaemert will continue
as the Northeast Regional Representative when he returns.
