GENERAL MEETING MINUTES
September 22, 2005, Breakfast Meeting
at Annual Conference
Sheraton Steamboat Resort and Conference Center, Steamboat Springs, Colorado
Meeting Attendees
An Attendance Roster was not circulated. An estimated 100 Association members were present.
The following is a summary of the interactions, comments and items discussed. While this summary is not intended to represent a complete or comprehensive account of the meeting, it is intended to reflect the salient points raised and issues for further consideration. Should the attendees believe that anything might be misrepresented or misleading, please bring this to the attention of David Krickbaum, CASFM Secretary.
1) Secretary Report - David Krickbaum
The minutes for the July 14, 2005 meeting were approved by a motion and vote.
2) Treasurer Report –David Mallory
The Treasurer’s Report was presented and approved by a motion and vote.
3) Regional Representatives’ Reports
No reports were made
4) Committee Reports
a) Floodplain (Kallie Bauer) – Twenty-five took the CFM exam. It will be offered at next year’s conference.
b) Stormwater Quality – No report was made
c) Scholarship (Jeremy Franz)– Five scholarship applications were received. The deadline was extended one week due to difficulties with the on-line application. $2,000 to $3,000 is available for an undergraduate scholarship from the Urban Watershed Research Institute.
d) Outreach – No report was made
e) Membership (Kevin Gingery) – One week before the conference there were 597 members.
f) Training (Kevin Gingery) – The committee conducted an online survey to identify training needs. Kevin Doyle, from Michael Baker, will present a CLOMR/LOMR workshop in November. Plans are to offer the workshop throughout the state. A streambank stabilization workshop will be held during the first quarter of 2006. Details for future workshops will be presented online.
g) Website (Stuart Gardner) – Pay Pal was added for the conference registration. Please forward any feedback to Stuart.
5) 2006 Conference
The 2006 conference will be at the Hotel Colorado in Glenwood Springs.
6) Arid Regions Conference
a) A memo was distributed regarding CASFM hosting the Arid Regions Conference in 2007.
b) After discussion, the consensus was that CASFM should host the 2007 Arid Regions conference concurrent with the annual conference, at a location to be determined.
7) Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund
Brad Anderson asked if the members would support making a donation to the hurricane relief fund. He suggested finding an organization that would match the CASFM donation. It was suggested that the donation be made to help those affected by Katrina or Rita, rather than specifically Katrina. The donation was supported by a show of hands. Brad will research organizations that would match the CASFM donation and will report at the November meeting.
8) ASFPM Chapter Director
Tom Browning has been elected as Chapter Director of ASFPM.
9) Newsletter/CASFM Magazine
Tom Browning has been talking to Matrix Publishing Group about their publishing a CASFM magazine. It would be full color and approximately 25 pages. The magazine would be funded by advertising and could generate revenue for CASFM. Distribution would be up to 5000 copies, but likely around 3000 copies. The magazine would provide a means of reaching out to community officials. The idea was supported by a show of hands.
