The following is a summary of the interactions, comments and items discussed. While this summary is not intended to represent a complete or comprehensive account of the meeting, it is intended to reflect the salient points raised and issues for further consideration. Should the attendees believe that anything might be misrepresented or misleading, please bring this to the attention of David Krickbaum, CASFM Secretary.

 

1.      Secretary Report - David Krickbaum

 

With Tom Browning, David Mallory, Aaron Asquith, Debbie Haferman and David Krickbaum attending, a quorum was present. The minutes from the January 12, 2006 meeting were distributed. A correction was noted for item 5.b. The date of the CLOMR workshop was February 8th not 28th. The minutes were approved, as corrected, by a motion and a vote.
 

2.      Treasurer Report – David Mallory

 

The Treasurer’s Report and proposed 2006 budget were presented. Checks have been issued to Pen Gildersleeve, Matt Fater and Brian Hyde for reimbursement of personal expenses related to gulf coast relief efforts. Money remains in the 2006 budget for disaster relief efforts. Brian Hyde made a second trip and has asked for reimbursement. David asked those in attendance whether the second request should be paid. He was not aware of others that may submit reimbursement requests. After discussion the second reimbursement request was approved.

Resolution of an IRS penalty for 2004 taxes is pending, but is expected to be resolved favorably.
 

3.      Regional Representatives’ Reports

 

Aaron Asquith reported that Robert Krehbiel will be making a presentation at the ASCE meeting next week. He proposed that CASFM members be reimbursed the $25 fee from the budget for socials. After discussion this was approved.

Debbie Haferman reported that Matt Fater made a presentation to the northeast region on his Katrina relief efforts. The northeast region has also made field trips to observe the construction of improvements to the Boyd Lake spillway. One more field trip is planned with a social afterwards. Aaron and Debbie will coordinate to make the field trip and social a joint activity for the metro and northeast regions.

No other regional representatives were present.
 

4.    Committee Reports

 

a)    Floodplain – No report was made.

b)    Stormwater Quality – No report was made.

c)    Scholarship – Jeremy Franz reported that last year’s scholarship has been awarded.  There were 12 applicants.  UWRI made a contribution to the scholarship fund; therefore two scholarships will be awarded in 2006.  One will be for an undergraduate student.

d)   Outreach – Chris Carlson reported that a joint conference of the Colorado Riparian Association, Colorado Watershed Assembly and the Central Rockies Chapter of the Society of Ecological Restoration will be held in October.  There may be an opportunity for a CASFM representative to discuss our mission during the morning session.  He added that CASFM may want to consider participating in a future joint conference.

e)   Membership – No report was made.

f)    Training – Chris Carlson reported that a 2-day stream bank stabilization workshop will be offered in July or August at 3 locations around the state.  A HEC-GeoRAS and HEC-GeoHMS will be offered in November 2006 or January 2007.

g)      Website – No report was made.

 

5.      2006 Conference Robert Krehbiel

 

The 2006 conference will be September 26-29 in Glenwood Springs. Papers are due the end of March. Possible themes are:
     “Building great communities beyond the 100-year line”
     “Designing the future, protecting people, protecting the future”
 

6.     2007 Arid Regions Conference

 

Possible locations for the conference are Beaver Run, Great Divide and Village in Breckenridge or Keystone Resort and conference Center. After discussion it was decide to hold the conference at Beaver Run. Possible dates for the conference are the weeks of September 10th, 17th and 24th. The week of September 10th was preferred by those in attendance.
 

7.     Hurricane Relief

 

This item was discussed during the Treasurer’s report.
 

8.     Other Business

 

There was a brief discussion regarding CASFM position papers. Thoughts and suggestions for topics and whether the papers should be prepared by individuals of committee should be forwarded to Tom Browning.
