1)      Secretary Report

The minutes for the January 8, 2009 general meeting were distributed. The minutes were approved by a motion and vote.  A quorum of officers and regional representatives was present.

2)      Treasurer Report

Account balances and expenditures were reviewed.  Savings account holds $20,919.22 and the checking account holds $41,474.27. The Treasurer Report was approved by a motion and a vote.

3)      Regional Representatives’ Reports

a)   Denver Metro – Deb Ohlinger reported the next social is scheduled for April 14 at Rock Bottom Brewery (north of Park Meadows Mall). Mark Glidden will be the guest speaker discussing South Boulder Creek. Later this summer, Tom Browning will be the guest speaker and discuss Chatfield Reservoir.

b)   Northeast – Brian Varella had nothing to report

c)   Southeast – Liz Staten of HDR has offered to fulfill the term vacated by Danny Elsner. Since no one ran against Danny in the general election, a call was sent out for volunteers. Liz volunteered herself. A motion was made to accept the nomination and seconded. Liz Staten will be the Southeast Representative through September 2009.

d)   Northwest – John Kornfeld reported via email that a CRS training class is scheduled at CDOT’s Grand Junction Office on June 30th.

e)   Southwest – Victoria Schmitt reported via email that no social events have been scheduled.

4)           Committee Reports

a)   Floodplain/CFM – Kallie Bauer reported that she will be proctoring the CFM exam May 27-28 at the Southeast Weld County Service Complex. The April 1-2 CFM exam at UDFCD is full. The National Hydrologic Conference in mid-May will also be offering the CFM exam.

b)   Stormwater Quality – Michelle DeLaria reported via email that the field trip will be held mid-June to visit stormwater BMPs around the metro area. Although they are still looking for suggestions, they may go to Greenwood Village to view BMPs and a level spreader in Aurora.

c)   Outreach – Brandon Luster reported the committee is updating the CASFM marketing brochure and will distribute the new brochure this June at the CML conference in Vail. HDR marketing staff are updating the brochure. Ken Cecil will be the CASFM representative at the CML conference.

d)   Scholarship – Walt Pennington reported via email that they have received 6 applications for the CASFM/UWRI scholarship and 7 applications for the Ben Urbonas scholarship. Interviews with the short-listed Ben Urbonas scholarship candidates are anticipated within the next 2 weeks. Of the 13 applications, 9 were from CSU, 2 from CU-Boulder, 1 from CU-Denver, and 1 from Mines.

e)   Membership – Kevin Gingery reported via email that CASFM has 627 active members so far in 2009.  Reminder post-cards will be sent the end of March.

f)    Training – Chris Carlson reported via email that the committee met February 2. The 2009 Technical Training Survey about ˝ day and full day training courses is on the website, and as of 3/16/09 a total of 100 people had responded. There was discussion of a “Twilight Training Series” or the “Barstool Series” which is a short course, a couple hours in length, followed by a social. These could be combined with regional socials if the representatives would be interested in the concept, especially for the socials outside of the Metro area. Fees for attending the training courses will $25 to $45. Instructors will be paid about $300. The committee is also looking into credits that could be applied to the CFM requirements. These courses could be taught through UWRI.

g)   Website – No report.

h)   Community Rating System – Kevin Houck provided an update. A CRS workshop will be held in Longmont. Another workshop will be held in Grand Junction June 30. The committee’s next is Thursday March 26th in Ft. Collins.

5)      Newsletter Update

David Mallory is seeking articles for the “Winter” newsletter. He will be sending the newsletter to publication next week so any articles are needed ASAP. He is pursing an article about Denver’s Montclair storm system that won the Grand Award at the 2008 CASFM conference.

6)      Conference

The conference will be September 16-18 in Crested Butte and will be the 20th Anniversary of the Conference. A special CASFM logo was developed by Olsson’s graphic staff. For the 20th Anniversary, calendars could be distributed at the conference. They could include pictures of past Grand Award winning projects or simply good drainage and floodplain photographs. Custom calendars are about $15 each. David Mallory will research calendar options to compile the photographs. Other suggestions include thumb drives or tote bags.

Potential Keynote Speakers include Clancy Philipsborn, Alan Taylor, John Doerfer, Jerry Galloway and Mike Grimm. Dave Bennetts will investigate possible speakers.

The Plenary Session may include 6 members from the original conference take 10-15 minutes to share their thoughts. Alternatively, we could have previous Grand Award winners showing slides of their projects now.

Field Trips may include Stream Restoration (Slate Creek, Ohio Creek, Gunnison River),
Reservoir Tours (Taylor, Crystal, Marrow Point, Blue Mesa), Adventure (Horse or ATV), Fly Fishing Guided Clinic, Walking Tour of the History of Crested Butte, and a Bike Trip/Trail Restoration.

7)      Elections

An announcement will be sent out in May to solicit input for officer positions.
