September 17, 2009, Breakfast Meeting at Annual CASFM Conference

An Attendance Roster was not circulated.  It is estimated that over 100 Association members were present.


 

The following is a summary of the interactions, comments and items discussed. While this summary is not intended to represent a complete or comprehensive account of the meeting, it is intended to reflect the salient points raised and issues for further consideration. Should the attendees believe that anything might be misrepresented or misleading, please bring this to the attention of Robert Krehbiel, CASFM Secretary.

 

1)      Secretary Report

The minutes for the July 9, 2009 meeting were approved by a motion and vote.  A quorum of officers and regional representatives was present.

2)      Treasurer Report

Account balances and expenditures were reviewed.  Savings account holds $20,971.12 and the checking account holds $93,848.61. To-date, expenditures for 2009 have been $23,422.07 while the total annual budget is $152,175. To-date, revenue for 2009 is $83,096.12 while the total annual budget is $125,500. These numbers will change dramatically once the conference revenue and expenses are reconciled.

A motion was made and approved to add incoming members to the CASFM checking account.

3)      Confirmation of 2009-2010 Officers and Regional Representatives

Southeast Regional Representative – Elizabeth Staten, HDR Engineering Inc

Southwest Regional Representative – Victoria Schmitt, LaPlata County

Metro Regional Representative – Deb Ohlinger, Olsson Associates

 

4)      Regional Representatives’ Reports (from outgoing reps)

a)   Denver Metro – Deb Ohlinger reported that socials have been organized quarterly with good attendance of 20-35. December 10, 2008 – University of Colorado at Denver’s porous pavement, combined with a social at Dixons downtown. April 14, 2009 – Rock Bottom Brewery on South Boulder Creek. June 24, 2009 – Chad’s Grill on Jordan Hydrologic Analysis. August 13, 2009 – Morrison Inn on Flood Preparedness Exercise.

b)   Northeast – Brian Varella reported on the July 14th social at CB Potts in Fort Collins. Chris Carlson from the City of Loveland presented on proprietary BMP’s. Brian and Basil are trying to coordinate a LID demonstration tour in and around Northern Colorado. They are also looking into a tour of the CSU Research Center.

c)   Southeast – Liz Staten had no report.

d)   Northwest – John Kornfeld had nothing to report.

e)   Southwest – Victoria Schmitt had no report.

5)      Committee Reports

a)   Floodplain/CFM – Kallie Bauer reported that 23 people took the CFM exam at the conference.  12 Continuing Education Credits are already approved for the conference to maintain CFM certification.   

b)   Stormwater Quality – Holly Piza reported that she will be working with Herman Feissner on the June field trip. 

c)   Scholarship – Steve Roznowski from Colorado State University was selected for the $2500 CASFM Ben Urbonas Scholarship and attended the 2009 conference. Eric Eisinger from the Colorado School of Mines was selected for the 2008/2009 $2500 CASFM/UWRI scholarship. Scholarship recipients for 2009 will be select October 5.     

d)   Outreach – Ken Cecil reported that he will be working with Shea Thomas toward outreach with the Colorado Municipal League. They are looking for more volunteers for the committee.   

e)   Membership/Training – The inaugural “Barstool Series” began July 28 for 2 credit hours. The first workshop was held in the Metro region with Mr. Ed Thomas with Michael Baker Jr. discussing training on legally oriented issues. The goal is to carry similar training sessions around the State to help CFM’s achieve their annual education credits.

f)    Website – Cvent has been organizing the registration process. The cost is about $3500 for the conference and has been working well.    

g)   Community Rating System – CASFM has hosted 3 introductions to the CRS workshops. Colorado’s CRS system has been getting national attention. The next meeting is scheduled for September 29 at the CWCB offices. Kerry Redente with ISO has been available during the conference for 1- on 1- sessions with communities interested in joining CRS.

h)   Conference – Attendees were urged to fill out the conference evaluation forms. David Mallory reported that the calendars were created to show flood control and stormwater projects. The goal was to showcase the membership and past project winners.

 

6)      Other Business

a)   The next meeting will be November 12, 2009 at Applegate Group.
