We have our first planned metro social of the year scheduled for March 16, 2005 at 6:00 PM at the Parkside Mansion located at 1859 York Street in Denver adjacent to City Park. For this social, Thomas Hopson, a doctoral candidate at the University of Colorado in the Atmospheric and Oceanic Science department will be presenting. His presentation will focus on his current efforts of Operational Flood Forecasting in Bangledesh. These efforts include receiving and incorporating numerous weather forecast data sets into hydrologic/hydraulic models and informing Bangledesh of potential flooding. In addition, he will discuss the economic impacts and expected margins of error of the associated work. Overall, the project is on the cutting edge of floodplain management, moving even beyond advanced warning systems to prediction and reduction of the impacts and losses of flooding. The project is exciting and should provide valuable insight into one aspect of the future of floodplain management.

The itinerary includes a small social period, with a taco bar provided and also a cash bar for drinks, from 6:00 to 6:45 PM. This will be followed by Thomas’s presentation and a short question and answer session.

For final counts for the caterer and table setup, please RSVP to my e-mail at aarona@mr-ltd.com by March 8, if you plan on attending.

Hope to see you there,
