DESCRIPTION:The Association of State Floodplain Managers (ASFPM) Certified Floodplain Managers (CFM®) Exam will be offered AECOM on 7:30 am on Thursday April 25th\, 2019.  The address of the facility is \n  \nAECOM \n6200 South Quebec Street \nGreenwood Village\, CO 80111\, USA \nT +1-303-694-2770 \naecom.com \n  \nIn order to take the CFM exam\, you must complete and submit the CFM Program Application Package to the ASFPM.  The forms are available on the ASFPM website www.floods.org under the Certification Program tab.  The fee for taking the exam is $100 for ASFPM members and $470 for non-members.  You may submit an application for ASFPM membership at the same time as applying to take the CFM® exam. \n  \nSpace in the facility is limited to 40 participants\, so get your application in early.   In order to be accepted to take the CFM Exam\, you must submit your completed application along with the appropriate fee to ASFPM by [April 11\, 2017] (2 weeks prior to exam date).  No walk-ins will be allowed unless authorized by the ASFPM Executive office. \n  \nA Floodplain 101 class will be held\, in the same facilities the day before\, April 24th\, 2017.  Both the test and the Floodplain 101 class will be held at the same location.  For both the class and test\, please arrive early enough to locate the facility\, check in with the receptionist to gain access\, and be settled in.  The FP101 class will begin at 7:30 and will conclude at 5:00 pm.  The CFM test will start at 7:30 am and will conclude at 10:30 am.  Please contact Chris Hodyl at chris.hodyl@jacobs.com if you would like to attend the class.  Registration for the test is through ASFPM as described above. \n  \nThere is no fee for the class and you may attend the class without registering for the test.  Exam preparation materials can be found on ASFPM’s website at:  http://floods.org/index.asp?menuID=215&firstlevelmenuID=180&siteID=1 \nThe “Floodplain 101” class is for enhancement or refresher only and not intended to teach the exam.

It is a very important part of urban stormwater systems and is critical in protection to public provided beyond those offered by BMP and LID facilities. In this course you will learn: \n1) Assessment of urbanization impact on increase\nof runoff rates and volumes\n2) Types of stormwater detention\,\n3) Hydrograph method for estimating detention volume\nfor large watersheds\n4) FAA method for estimating detention volume for\nsmall watersheds\n5) Empirical methods for Excess Urban Runoff Volume (EURV)\,\nWater Quality Capture Volume (WQCV) and 10-yr and 100-yr\ndetention volumes\n6) Detention basin’s pre-sizing for multiple flood events\n7) Detention basin’s pre-shaping to produce\nthe stage-storage curve\n8) Design of inflow system using a forebay and inflow\nchannel for in-stream basin\n9) Design of inflow system using a culvert-diversion\nstructure for off-stream basin\n10) Design of outflow structure with WQCV plate\,\nlow-flow orifice\, and high-flow grate\,\n11) Design of outfall culvert using restricted plate to\nproduce the stage-outflow curve\n12) Design of basins operated by HGL using equalizer\npipes and flood gates\n13) Reservoir routing method to evaluate basin’s\nperformance\n14) Design of micropool in front of the WQCV plate\n15) Design of Full Spectrum Detention (FSD)\n16) Application and impact of watershed-wide regional FSD\n17) Design-storm modeling versus continuous simulation\nof detention basins\n18) Effect of location in watershed on detention\nbasin effectiveness\n19) Maintenance of detention basins and\nvarious design components\n20) Design and Review examples using\nUDFCD’s UD-Detention workbook tool \nThis Course Will Cover:\nThe lectures and work sessions are designed to teach how to design a stormwater detention system. You will be provided with a easy to use\, spreadsheet based computer model Stormwater Detention Design that was specifically developed for you to:\n1) Calculate the required storm water detention volumes\,\nincluding ones for Water Quality Capture Volume\,\nExcess Urban Runoff Volume\, 10-yr and 100-yr storms\n2) Estimate the basin geometry using triangular\, rectangular\,\nor elliptical shapes\,\n3) Develop the final stage-storage-outflow relationships\, and\n4) Conduct reservoir routing through the basin under design.\nDetentions and BMP outlet structures can be very complicated and can contain of multiple orifices\, weirs\, perforated plates\, and culverts. \nMuch of the class will be in workshop mode\, in which you will experience hands-on operations and how to achieve various stormwater and flood mitigation using detention design techniques. Stormwater Detention Design Software’s design procedures used fully comply with proven hydraulic design protocols applicable in all areas of United States and the rest of the world. You will also learn how to use spreadsheet-based freeware developed by the Urban Drainage and Flood Control District to size detention volumes and outlets. \nBring Your Own Computer.\nYou will need it to run the Excel workbooks provided to you in the class. \nFaculty:\nDr. James C.Y. Guo\, PhD\, P.E. is a professor at University of Colorado Denver. In addition to teaching engineering hydrology and hydraulics since 1982\, he is active in applied research and is a practicing engineer. Dr. Guo’s research work has been referenced in number of Federal\, State\, and City and County drainage manuals in United States and in several refereed journals as well. He also brings to the class the latest concepts and methods for stormwater detention designs and modeling techniques for outlet structure sizing and analyses. \nHolly Piza\, P.E.\, is a Project Manager at the Urban Drainage & Flood Control District\, serving the Denver\, Colorado metropolitan area. Ms. Piza managed the development of the current version of the UD-DETENTION reservoir-routing model. She has also managed the criteria\, standards\, and stormwater quality research and technology development program at the District since 2009. \nColorado is a great place to visit!\nApril is a beautiful time to visit Colorado.
