SUMMARY:2nd HEC-RAS 2D Modeling Course
DESCRIPTION:Because of popular demand\, CASFM arranged a 2nd HEC-RAS 2D Modeling Course  \nWhen: May 21st-May 23rd 8 am-4:30pm \nCLICK TO REGISTER \nCourse Description: WEST Consultant’s hands-on seminar and computer workshop provides practical training in two-dimensional modeling using HEC-RAS. Participants gain intensive experience constructing two-dimensional HEC-RAS models from scratch. This hands-on experience also highlights methods in which the one-dimensional components of HEC-RAS can be connected to two-dimensional meshes. Lectures on 2D flow theory\, an introduction to the new capabilities and features of HEC-RAS\, and procedures for creating a stable and calibrated 2D model will be covered. Workshops focus on giving students experience with building and pre-processing the computational mesh\, performing offline and inline 2D projects\, and using the built-in feature RAS Mapper to spatially analyze results. \n*Attendees should bring their own laptop with latest version of HEC-RAS* \nClick to View the HEC RAS 2D Modeling Course #2 Flyer

The HEC-HMS software may be downloaded from:\nhttp://www.hec.usace.army.mil/software/hec-hms/downloads.aspx \nFaculty:\nGerald Blackler\, PE\, PhD has focused his academic and professional career in hydrology and water resources engineering. He has used advanced methods in HEC-HMS models for a variety of projects across the US that range from large burn areas in New Mexico to drainage from coal mines in West Virginia. He has worked on hydrologic and hydraulic projects across the US for the National Park Service\, National Forest Service\, the Federal Highway Administration\, and many other public and private clients. \nDavid Williams\, PE\, PhD\, CFM\, CPESC\, PH has over 46 years of experience working in water resources and is an expert user and instructor for many US Army Corps of Engineers software packages including HEC-HMS and HEC-RAS. David is a lead instructor for a wide range of course for American Society of Civil Engineers and instructs beginning and advanced HEC-HMS courses\, geomorphology of streams\, advanced courses in hydraulic modeling with HEC-RAS and many other courses around the United States. He is a professional hydrologist (PH)\, and is on the executive board of the American Institute of Hydrology. \nColorado is a great place to visit in May!\nThis class will be held during a wonderful time of the year in Colorado! If you would like to stay close to or in the city of Denver\, Larimer Square is a fun area to grab a bite to eat and enjoy a little shopping. There are also a few extra exciting events happening in May; The musical Wicked will be live at the Buell Theatre until June 9th! Our fabulous Rockies will also be playing at Coors Field from May 24th to June 2nd. If you would like to venture outside of the city\, Red Rocks scenic hiking trails offer a thrilling workout. And at night\, Red Rocks is a stunning venue where you can enjoy concerts or films while outdoors. So\, if you come and attend this class\, you may want to extend your stay (or even come early) and take advantage of the most attractive area of the United States.

SUMMARY:Risk Rating 2.0: What Floodplain Managers Need to Know
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the 2.5-hour online workshop Risk Rating 2.0: What Floodplain Managers Need to Know for an in-depth discussion on this new flood insurance rating methodology. Presented by FEMA\, in cooperation with the ASFPM Flood Insurance Committee\, ASFPM is making this program available to all ASFPM members. We’re offering the same workshop at three different times to ensure that all members who want to attend\, will be able to do so. \nEven if you’ve attended one of FEMA’s Risk Rating 2.0 webinars for insurance companies or agents being offered throughout the summer and fall\, you will want to attend this program. It was developed specifically for ASFPM members and will include issues that are most important to state and local floodplain management practitioners. It will also provide 2 Continuing Education Credits (CECs) for Certified Floodplain Managers. \n  \nStarting October 1\, Risk Rating 2.0 fundamentally changes the way FEMA rates a property’s flood risk and prices insurance. The new methodology incorporates more flood risk variables to more accurately reflect a property’s individual flood risk\, including flood frequency\, multiple flood types—river overflow\, storm surge\, coastal erosion and heavy rainfall—and distance to a water source along with property characteristics such as elevation and the cost to rebuild. \n  \nLearning objectives: As a floodplain manager\, increasing your understanding of Risk Rating 2.0 is important to our collective efforts to help educate community members\, dispel any myths\, and increase participation in the program. \nBy attending this workshop\, you will: \n\nReceive an overview of Risk Rating 2.0\nUnderstand the key differences you need to know between the old and new rating systems\nGain in-depth knowledge on the key rating variables affecting the new rates\n\n  \nPresenter: Shilpa Mulik\, Program Specialist\, Floodplain Management Division\, FEMA \nREGISTER NOW FOR OCT. 19th \n  \nDates: \nParticipants must register in advance and will be confirmed on a first-come\, first-served basis. Each workshop can accommodate 1\,000 participants. The two remaining online workshops will cover the same content and are available at these dates and times: \nTuesday\, Oct. 19 12:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. ET \nWednesday\, Nov. 17 1:00 – 3:30 p.m. ET \nLength: 2.5 hours (including 30 minutes of Q&A) \nPresenter: Shilpa Mulik\, Program Specialist\, Floodplain Management Division\, FEMA \n  \n*The September 23rd workshop\, originally scheduled for 2 hours\, has been extended to 2.5 hours. The link to register can be found via our training calendar\, here.

SUMMARY:Emerging Professionals Workshop
DESCRIPTION:We have been working with the Army Corps of Engineers on The Emerging Professionals Workshop Program which will be presented by the Colorado Silver Jackets. The Colorado Silver Jackets is a cooperative team of state and federal agencies with the common goal of improving floodplain management through coordination\, expertise in technical services\, and hosting educational opportunities. This workshop will focus on introductory level soft skills to be an effective steward of Colorado floodplains. Plan to come out of this workshop with a greater understanding of differing state and federal agencies roles\, communication strategies with clients\, and Colorado’s pivotal approach to floodplain management. While our targeted audience is individuals in the earlier portion of their floodplain management career\, attendance is open to any interested party. As an incentive we have also been certified for delivering 4.5 Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM) Continuing Education Credits (CECs). \nPlease consider attending an in-person workshop at one of these locations. Attendance will be limited to 30 people per location: \nDenver-May 16th\, 2023\nColorado Springs-June 12th\, 2023\nGrand Junction-August 9th\, 2023\nAlamosa- August 24th\, 2023 \nTickets can be claimed at our Event bright Page for FREE.
