SUMMARY:NeFSMA Kingsley Dam Tour and 2019 Western Nebraska Seminar
DESCRIPTION:https://www.casfm.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/03/2019-NeFMSA-Western-NE-Seminar-Agenda.pdf \n  \nOn May 2-3 NeFSMA will having a tour of Kingsley Dam\, followed by speakers regarding issues related to the dam\, dam safety\, endangered species\, the Platte River Basin\, and more. \nThe NeFSMA professional development committee members are very excited about this event since you don’t normally get to tour a dam of this magnitude as part of a floodplain/stormwater organization.  The event has been set up so public officials in eastern NE can travel during the morning of a work day\, justify an overnight stay since we will have an evening program with CEC’s\, and travel home the afternoon of a 2nd day.   But it turns out Denver is actually closer to Ogallala than Lincoln (3 hours verses 4 hours) so works great for Colorado CASFM members to make the trip also! \nWe have been pre-approved for 7.5 CEC’s from ASFPM so is a great opportunity also for CFM’s to pick up quite a few hours if they can’t make one of your schedule events with CEC’s.  We can’t offer mountain views like you do at your annual convention (was at your Crested Butte conference in 2016 so know a little bit about your conference amenities)\, but can offer a big lake\, great tour and some floodplain/stormwater socializing.   We also attempted to have some less regional (Nebraska) presentations the next day so does not sound like an all Big Red event. \n  \nhttps://www.nefsma.com/event-3304934 \n

SUMMARY:UWRI - Floodplain Delineation using 2D HEC RAS
DESCRIPTION:https://www.regonline.com/builder/site/Default.aspx?EventID=2548452 \nCEU’s: You will be eligible to receive 1.5 CEU’s or 15 PDH’s for this course.\nYou will receive 12 ASFPM Core CEC’s toward CFM certification. \nWhat Will You Learn? \nThis is a two-day workshop that will focus on the basic knowledge and applications of two dimensional (2D) flood inundation modeling using the new version of U.S. Army Corps of Engineers HEC-RAS 5.0. The new HEC-RAS 5.0 has been significantly improved and includes new abilities. One of them is to perform two‐dimensional (2D) hydrodynamic flow routing. Now\, users can perform one‐dimensional (1D) and 2D unsteady‐flow modeling\, as well as combined 1D and 2D routing. Students will learn the basic theory and knowledge of 2D unsteady flow modeling and common applications. The class exercises will be practically carried out by creating a 2D HEC-RAS model and delineating flood inundation extents. Every class exercise will be performed based on working through each key element step-by-step. The subjects that will be covered in this course are: \n1) Basic theory and knowledge of unsteady flow hydraulics.\n2) Understanding of basic 2D flood hydraulic modeling and application.\n3) Introduction of HEC-RAS 5.0.\n4) Create and run your first 2D HEC-RAS step by step.\n5) Considerations and limitations of developing a 2D HEC-RAS model.\n6) Combined HEC-RAS 1D and 2D routing.\n7) Inline and lateral Structures with 2D flood routing.\n8) How to stabilize and optimize the computation results.\n9) Exporting modeling results.\n10) Flood inundation extents delineation using RAS Mapper.\n11) Modeling errors and troubleshooting. \nWorkshops will include creating a terrain model and computational mesh using RAS Mapper\, setting up the initial boundary conditions\, adding structures\, stabilizing an unsteady flow model\, and exporting computation results and mapping. This workshop is suitable for engineers\, technicians and current HEC-RAS users responsible for flood inundation delineation and unsteady flow modeling. \nFaculty:\nDr. Max Shih\, PhD\, P.E.\, CFM is a technical lead for water resources engineering and sediment transport projects at CDM Smith. SUMMARY:G194: Preparing For Post-Disaster Responsibilities Course
DESCRIPTION:Description: This course is designed to familiarize the participants with the elements of pre-disaster planning needed to prepare for substantial damage operations. Substantial damage applies to a structure in a Special Flood Hazard Area (SFHA) – or 1-percent-annual-chance floodplain – for which the total cost of repairs is 50 percent or more of the structure’s market value before the disaster occurred\, regardless of the cause of damage.\nCourse topics include: Identifying partners and resources; creating post-disaster standard operating procedures (SOPs); outline steps that should take place post-disaster to carry out substantial damage assessments; describe possible methods to obtain compliance with substantial damage determinations; and review possible sources of funding that can assist with post-disaster substantial losses. This course has in-depth discussion of the topics and exercises to help floodplain managers prepare for post-disaster activities. \nTarget Audience: Local floodplain managers and other local officials with the responsibility of completing damage assessments (assessor’s office\, public works\, building inspectors\, planners\, etc.) are strongly encouraged to attend. Emergency managers and recovery staff would also benefit. \nRegister: Registration will be through https://www.train.org/colorado/. Course ID # 1079686.\nFor help with CO.Train registration\, contact cdps_dhsem_training@state.co.us. \nDate\, Time & Location: January 15th\, 8:00am – 5:00pm. Lunch will be on your own.\nJefferson County Campus\, 800 Jefferson County Pkwy\, Dakota Building\, Golden\, CO 80401
