SUMMARY:2-Day HEC-RAS Sediment Transport Course
DESCRIPTION:Lead by West Consultants\, this hands-on seminar and computer workshop provides practical\ntraining in sediment transport modeling. We will cover the algorithms HEC-RAS uses to compute\nsediment transport\, selecting a transport function\, computing transport capacity\, the quasi-unsteady\nflow assumption\, bed mixing algorithms\, bed change options\, and other fundamental computations.\nThe course will also discuss avoiding common sediment transport modeling problems.\nIntensive workshops will instruct participants in basic sediment transport modeling input (e.g.\,\nboundary conditions\, bed sediment samples\, hydraulic information)\, model options (e.g.\, dredging\,\ntransport equation calibration\, cohesive transport\, etc.)\, and output features. \nAttendees should bring their own laptop with HEC-RAS 5.0.3 \nLearning Outcomes: \n\nSet up and execute a sediment transport analysis within HEC-RAS.\nRecognize the transport methods within HEC-RAS and select appropriate function(s).\nApply calibration and sensitivity techniques to their models.\nTroubleshoot HEC-RAS sediment models.\n\n7 CFM credits will be awarded per day attended. \nCost: \n\nEarly Registration (by May 13): $400\nLate Registration (after May 13): $525\n\nDates & Times: \n\nJune 14 & June 15\, 2018 8AM – 5PM\n\nLocation: \n\nSEMSWA\, 7437 S Fairplay St\, Centennial\, CO 80112\n\nClick here to register \nClick here for the event flyer: HEC RAS Sediment Transport Course Updated \nQuestions? SUMMARY:NHI - Stream Stability and Scour at Highway Bridges
DESCRIPTION:TRAINING LEVEL: Intermediate \nCLASS SIZE: Minimum: 20 Maximum: 30 \n\n\nCOURSE DESCRIPTION: \nThe National Highway Institute’s (NHI) 3-day Stream Stability and Scour at Highway Bridges course provides participants with comprehensive training in the prevention of hydraulic-related bridge failures. Course participants will receive training in conducting a stream stability classification and qualitative analysis of stream response and make estimates of scour at a bridge opening. \nMaterial for the course comes primarily from two Hydraulic Engineering Circulars (HEC)\, “Evaluating Scour at Bridges” (HEC-18)\, 5th Edition (2012)\, and “Stream Stability at Highway Structures” (HEC-20)\, 4th Edition (2012). The effects of stream instability\, scour\, erosion\, and stream aggradation and degradation are covered. Quantitative techniques are provided for estimating long-term degradation and for calculating the magnitude of contraction scour in a bridge opening. Procedures for estimating local scour at bridge piers and abutments for simple and complex substructures are also provided. A comprehensive workshop integrates qualitative analysis and analytical techniques to determine the need for a Scour Plan of Action for correcting stream instability and scour problems. For this 3-day course\, the host agency will need to select 3 optional topics (out of 8 possible topics). Course instructors will contact the host prior to the course to complete a pre-course questionnaire\, determine optional topics to be taught\, and discuss the course schedule. \nThis comprehensive training provides preventive techniques for identifying\, analyzing\, and calculating various hydraulic factors that impact bridge stability. Public and private sector engineers responsible for maintaining the integrity of highway bridges will find it invaluable. \nPrior to the beginning of the course\, participants are strongly encouraged to enroll in the following Web-based training (WBT) courses: 135091 Basic Hydraulic Principles Review\, 135086 Stream Stability Factors and Concepts\, and 135087 Scour at Highway Bridges: Concepts and Definitions. Mastery of the concepts covered in these WBTs will enhance participation in the Instructor-led training. \n\n\nOUTCOMES: \nUpon completion of the course\, participants will be able to: \n\nIdentify indicators of stream instability that can threaten bridges\nIdentify stream types and their potential for instability problems\nDescribe open-channel hydraulics concepts in bridge scour and stream instability analyses\nDefine types of scour that can occur at bridge crossings\nDescribe aggradation\, degradation\, and contraction scour\nCalculate contraction scour for live bed and clear water conditions\nDescribe factors that influence scour at piers\nCalculate pier scour for three typical case studies\nDescribe the factors that influence scour at abutments\nDescribe how HEC-18\, HEC-20\, and HEC-23 provide analysis procedures for stream instability and bridge scour\nPerform Level I and II analyses\nClassify a stream using two different classification systems\nConduct a qualitative analysis of stream responses\nApply the HEC-18 scour equations to determine total scour at a bridge\nDetermine the need for a Scour Plan of Action at a scour-critical bridge

DESCRIPTION:Overview of Water Quality Regulations and Compliance \n  \n$345 until January 11 \n$395 after January 11 \nCEU’s: \nYou will be eligible to receive 0.7 CEU’s or 7 PDH’s for this course. \nApproval of CLE credits in the State of Colorado is pending. \nWhy you should take this seminar: \nOne of our most popular courses from 2013 is being offered again\, this time as a one-day course. Attorneys\, elected officials\, administrators\, water quality professionals\, engineers\, and anyone else who deals with water quality regulation issues will benefit from taking this seminar on the regulatory environment related to water\, wastewater\, and stormwater in United States and the State of Colorado. Jonathan Jones\, P.E.\, P.H.\, D.WRE\, of Wright Water Engineers facilitates a diverse and highly qualified group of instructors from both the public and private sector sides of water regulation. \nWhat you will learn: \nThis seminar is designed to provide valuable information to attorneys\, elected officials\, administrators\, water quality professionals\, engineers\, and virtually anyone involved with water quality planning\, assessment\, protection/mitigation or regulation. Continuing education credits will be available for both engineers and attorneys. An outstanding group of instructors have been assembled to present this one-day course. \nThis seminar/class will focus on the governing water quality laws at a federal\, state and local level (Colorado will be used as an example but with broader application to other locales as well) and associated regulations\, permit requirements\, implementing boards/agencies and related topics. This information will be of great value to both non-technical and technology oriented professionals that have to deal with and comply with regulations or deal with enforcement actions.
