SUMMARY:Stormwater Programming Lessons Learned - Lunch and Learn Series Events
DESCRIPTION:Stormwater Programming Lessons Learned with Richard Mulledy\, City of Colorado Springs \nCOURSE OBJECTIVES: \n\nProvide an overview of the City of Colorado Springs Stormwater Program\, it’s structure\, and future projects/programs/initiatives.\nDiscuss lessons learned from the recent MS4 Permit enforcement action\, federal trial\, and consent decree negotiations.\nProvide an overview of the City’s recently adopted consent decree structure and requirements.\n\nOver the last 5 years\, the City of Colorado Springs has drastically transformed its stormwater program. The transformation starting in 2016\, with a $460 million commitment by the City to improve its program and citywide stormwater infrastructure system. This agreement commits the city to improving its stormwater program\, completing a significant number of stormwater related infrastructure projects\, and improving the maintenance operations of its stormwater infrastructure. At the same time\, the City has been working hard to settle an enforcement action and federal lawsuit brought forward by the United States EPA\, the State of Colorado\, Pueblo County\, and the Lower Arkansas Valley Water Conservation District for noncompliance of its MS4 permit. Finally\, the City of Colorado Springs recently passed\, by ballot measure\, the reintroduction of a stormwater fee on developed and improved properties. The approved ballot measure reinstates the Stormwater Enterprise and provides a fee structure for the generation of revenue necessary to implement stormwater related projects\, programs\, and consent decree requirements. \nCOST: FREE \nCLICK HERE TO REGISTER \nColorado Springs LnL FLyer

DESCRIPTION:Tuesday & Wednesday February 9-10\, 2021\, 8:00 AM- 5:00 PM (Both Days) \nCourse Description – This two-day training program has been developed by Altitude Training Associates (ATA) to meet the knowledge and skills required to be a Qualified Stormwater Manager including implementation of the Stormwater Management Plan (SWMP) and conducting routine inspections. The Qualified Stormwater Manager must be skilled with control measure evaluation and application to effectively implement the SWMP. Certificates of completion are provided to each student who successfully completes the program. \nPrerequisite: The Qualified Stormwater Manager Certification Program is an intermediate training program. Understanding the fundamentals of Stormwater Management for Construction Activities is a prerequisite of the program\, (SMEC) is encouraged. \nLearning Objectives– Upon successful completion of the training program\, you will be able to:\n• Apply the requirements of the CSP to a construction site.\n• Describe the responsibilities of the Qualified Stormwater Manager.\n• Evaluate a SWMP for completeness & adequacy to facilitate implementation.\n• Select adequate control measures based on site conditions and pollutants.\n• Evaluate implemented control measures for proper installation\, maintenance\, application and adequacy for the site conditions. \n  \nQualified Stormwater Manager (QSM) Training Flyer \nPlease Visit: https://stormwater.mesacounty.us/events-and-training/ to register.

SUMMARY:After The Flames Fluvial Hazard Zone Mapping Webinar
DESCRIPTION:What is it? Why does it matter? \nHow can the Colorado Water Conservation Board methodology be transferred to other areas? \nJoin experts: \nChris Sturm\nColorado Water Conservation Board\nKatie Jagt\nWatershed Science & Design\nFeaturing a demonstration of the Colorado Water Conservation Board methodology and how it can be transferred to other locations. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Fluvial Hazard Zone is the area a stream has occupied in recent history\, may occupy\, or may physically influence as it stores and transports water\, sediment and debris. \nFHZ delineations can identify areas that are vulnerable to flooding and sedimentation that occur after a wildfire\, thereby directing the deployment of resources after a fire into watersheds that have the most at-risk\nassets downstream. In wildfire susceptible areas\, the FHZ mapping process can help direct stakeholders toward conservation and rehabilitation of areas critical for the storage of sediment and debris (e.g.\, areas upstream of vulnerable communities and/or water storage facilities). \nThe $12 registration helps cover our cost. This is collected through GoToWebinar and Stripe when you register. If you have issues with payment and/or government credit cards please contact Jane Mannon via email or call 719-748-0033. Limited scholarships may be available. \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nhttps://register.gotowebinar.com/register/2669205622084554255 \n

SUMMARY:Annual Conference Abstract Submittal Due
DESCRIPTION:The deadline for Annual Conference abstract submittals has been extended! The new deadline is June 1\, 2020. The flyer link (which has the submittal information) is at the end of this message. \nAs part of the CASFM 31st Annual Conference in Keystone\, CO\, CASFM and in partnership with the Learning Community Advisory Council (a group of local government agencies\, consultants\, and contractors) is making a special request for abstracts related to Lessons Learned in the stormwater and floodplain management community; specifically abstracts are sought to discuss projects where something went wrong and the lessons learned that can be used throughout the engineering and science community on future projects.  Presentation topics can include lessons learned from: \n\nDesign and Construction\nCollaboration\nTechnical Analysis\nPublic Involvement\, or\nOther areas of interest to the community\n\nThe Learning Community Advisory Council has partnered with CASFM to create a two part (six paper) presentation series for Lessons Learned at the conference entitled Try again. Fail again. Fail better.  The purpose of these sessions is to provide an opportunity for the those attending the conference to learn from the experiences of individuals and groups to improve future project outcomes.  It’s understood that sharing failures or poor outcomes presents a significant challenge in the field of professional engineering\, science\, and construction\, but one of the goals in sharing these stories is to foster a broader sense of community that encourages egolessness\, compassion\, curiosity\, and generosity.  This request is made in a spirit of collaboration and improving project outcomes; in plain language\, we all have a strong desire to see the community improve by growing knowledge and avoiding the same mistakes. \nPresentations will follow the same requirements noted in the Call for Presentations previously released by CASFM (the link is below).  If you have any follow-up questions regarding a potential presentation or discussion topic\, please feel free to contact Laura Kroeger (lkroeger@udfcd.org) or Jeff Sickles (jsickles@enginuity-es.com). \nFor additional details including the link to the abstract submittal form\,  click here to download the flyer. Please note that this is the original flyer with the original deadline date.
