SUMMARY:After The Flames Fluvial Hazard Zone Mapping Webinar
DESCRIPTION:What is it? Why does it matter? \nHow can the Colorado Water Conservation Board methodology be transferred to other areas? \nJoin experts: \nChris Sturm\nColorado Water Conservation Board\nKatie Jagt\nWatershed Science & Design\nFeaturing a demonstration of the Colorado Water Conservation Board methodology and how it can be transferred to other locations. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Fluvial Hazard Zone is the area a stream has occupied in recent history\, may occupy\, or may physically influence as it stores and transports water\, sediment and debris. \nFHZ delineations can identify areas that are vulnerable to flooding and sedimentation that occur after a wildfire\, thereby directing the deployment of resources after a fire into watersheds that have the most at-risk\nassets downstream. In wildfire susceptible areas\, the FHZ mapping process can help direct stakeholders toward conservation and rehabilitation of areas critical for the storage of sediment and debris (e.g.\, areas upstream of vulnerable communities and/or water storage facilities). \nThe $12 registration helps cover our cost. This is collected through GoToWebinar and Stripe when you register. If you have issues with payment and/or government credit cards please contact Jane Mannon via email or call 719-748-0033. Limited scholarships may be available. \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nhttps://register.gotowebinar.com/register/2669205622084554255 \n

SUMMARY:Annual Conference Abstract Submittal Due
DESCRIPTION:The deadline for Annual Conference abstract submittals has been extended! The new deadline is June 1\, 2020. The flyer link (which has the submittal information) is at the end of this message. \nAs part of the CASFM 31st Annual Conference in Keystone\, CO\, CASFM and in partnership with the Learning Community Advisory Council (a group of local government agencies\, consultants\, and contractors) is making a special request for abstracts related to Lessons Learned in the stormwater and floodplain management community; specifically abstracts are sought to discuss projects where something went wrong and the lessons learned that can be used throughout the engineering and science community on future projects.  Presentation topics can include lessons learned from: \n\nDesign and Construction\nCollaboration\nTechnical Analysis\nPublic Involvement\, or\nOther areas of interest to the community\n\nThe Learning Community Advisory Council has partnered with CASFM to create a two part (six paper) presentation series for Lessons Learned at the conference entitled Try again. Fail again. Fail better.  The purpose of these sessions is to provide an opportunity for the those attending the conference to learn from the experiences of individuals and groups to improve future project outcomes.  It’s understood that sharing failures or poor outcomes presents a significant challenge in the field of professional engineering\, science\, and construction\, but one of the goals in sharing these stories is to foster a broader sense of community that encourages egolessness\, compassion\, curiosity\, and generosity.  This request is made in a spirit of collaboration and improving project outcomes; in plain language\, we all have a strong desire to see the community improve by growing knowledge and avoiding the same mistakes. \nPresentations will follow the same requirements noted in the Call for Presentations previously released by CASFM (the link is below).  If you have any follow-up questions regarding a potential presentation or discussion topic\, please feel free to contact Laura Kroeger (lkroeger@udfcd.org) or Jeff Sickles (jsickles@enginuity-es.com). \nFor additional details including the link to the abstract submittal form\,  click here to download the flyer. Please note that this is the original flyer with the original deadline date.

SUMMARY:CRS Committee Meeting
DESCRIPTION:At this meeting\, we will have a presentation from Jeremy Hamer and Kim Pirri on elevation certificates.   They gave this presentation at the CASFM conference\, but not everyone was able to attend.  Here is the description from the CASFM program: “Does your community participate in the CRS? Are your Elevation Certificates correct? Join us to review all the nit-picky details of the Elevation Certificate\, common errors\, and what you\, as a community\, can do to correct those pesky errors.”  Thanks to Jeremy and Kim for volunteering to do this!  I think communities will find this topic helpful in preparation for the annual recertification due in May. \nDate:                  Thursday Feb. 13\, 2020 \nTime:                  10 am – Noon (lunch following – please RSVP to Teresa Patterson at tpatterson@udfcd.org) \nLocation:            Mile High Flood District – Board Room \n                             2840 W. 26th Ave\, Suite 156-B \nMeeting Call-in Info for February Meeting \nPlease join my meeting from your computer\, tablet or smartphone.\nhttps://global.gotomeeting.com/join/993788933 \nYou can also dial in using your phone. \nUnited States: +1 (872) 240-3412 \nAccess Code: 993-788-933 \nFirst GoToMeeting?
