SUMMARY:CASFM Lunch 'n' Learn
DESCRIPTION:An integrated Decision Support Tool (i-DST) for life-cycle cost assessment and optimization of green\, grey\, and hybrid stormwater infrastructure \nThe goal of the project is to develop an integrated decision support tool\, called i-DST\, for prioritizing potential grey and green stormwater infrastructure projects.  Decision support tools such as this are needed by municipalities crafting stormwater management plans to meet diverse objectives\, while simultaneous minimizing economic costs.  The primary objectives of these management plans are flood control and water quality permit compliance.  However\, there are many other outcomes of stormwater infrastructure that can be considered\, such as life cycle environmental impacts (e.g.\, greenhouse gas releases) and additional benefits to the community provided by the infrastructure (e.g.\, urban green space\, air temperature regulation).  The i-DST is a software tool that is being developed with routines to quantify how different stormwater infrastructure scenarios are able to meet these competing objectives.  Some components of the module include a hydrology and water model\, life cycle cost estimation\, a life cycle assessment to compute environmental impact\, and the quantification of other community benefits. The use of regional defaults values of infrastructure costs\, materials\, and performance allow for application of the tool across the nation. \nSpeaker: \nColin Bell is a postdoctoral researcher at the Colorado School of Mines in the department of Civil and Environmental Engineering.  His educational history includes a BS from the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry\, an MSE from UNC Charlotte\, and a PhD from Purdue University.  Colin has focused research efforts on monitoring and modeling hydro-ecological processes of urban environments.  Specifically\, focus has been paid to exploring how stormwater management strategies effect stream hydrology\, water quality\, and ecosystem function.  In addition to this primary research\, Colin has worked to build decision support tools for both urban water managers and residents looking to minimize negative impacts of urban water runoff. \nTo register for this event: https://casfm.swoogo.com/lnl20180502 \nRegistration is $10. \nRegistration deadline is Monday\, April 30 at 5PM \nContact Holly Piza with any questions.

SUMMARY:UWRI Class: Overview of WQ Regs and Compliance
DESCRIPTION:Overview of Water Quality Regulations and Compliance \n  \n$345 until January 11 \n$395 after January 11 \nCEU’s: \nYou will be eligible to receive 0.7 CEU’s or 7 PDH’s for this course. \nApproval of CLE credits in the State of Colorado is pending. \nWhy you should take this seminar: \nOne of our most popular courses from 2013 is being offered again\, this time as a one-day course. Attorneys\, elected officials\, administrators\, water quality professionals\, engineers\, and anyone else who deals with water quality regulation issues will benefit from taking this seminar on the regulatory environment related to water\, wastewater\, and stormwater in United States and the State of Colorado. Jonathan Jones\, P.E.\, P.H.\, D.WRE\, of Wright Water Engineers facilitates a diverse and highly qualified group of instructors from both the public and private sector sides of water regulation. \nWhat you will learn: \nThis seminar is designed to provide valuable information to attorneys\, elected officials\, administrators\, water quality professionals\, engineers\, and virtually anyone involved with water quality planning\, assessment\, protection/mitigation or regulation. Continuing education credits will be available for both engineers and attorneys. An outstanding group of instructors have been assembled to present this one-day course. \nThis seminar/class will focus on the governing water quality laws at a federal\, state and local level (Colorado will be used as an example but with broader application to other locales as well) and associated regulations\, permit requirements\, implementing boards/agencies and related topics. This information will be of great value to both non-technical and technology oriented professionals that have to deal with and comply with regulations or deal with enforcement actions.

SUMMARY:Regenerative Stormwater Conveyance - Lunch and Learn
DESCRIPTION:CASFM Lunch and Learn on January 31st\, 2018 – Regenerative Stormwater Conveyance. \nRegenerative stormwater conveyance (RSC) combines stormwater management with stream restoration\, floodplain restoration and wetland creation. Applicable in new development\, retrofits\, andrestoration scenarios\, RSC uses wide parabolic grade control riffles/cascades and pools to convey stormwater runoff in a more natural\, low-energy manner. The practice can be utilized to convey runoff within a site to other stormwater treatment practices in a treatment train or from outfalls to receiving streams. This approach aligns with philosophies such as low impact development and green infrastructure. \nFind our more and register at https://casfm.formstack.com/forms/lnl20180131
