DESCRIPTION:FEMA Certified Description: \nResilient communities are better able to plan for and take action to mitigate the risks from hazards\, increase the pace of recovery from destructive events\, and adapt to changing environments. \nThis course demonstrates how to integrate risk and community-based collaborative strategies into plans and programs and introduces tools that help communities assess individual risks and vulnerabilities as well as introduces strategies to become more resilient and better prepared for natural disasters.. \nThis one-day training course will provide state and local government agency staff and other stakeholder groups with background on natural hazards. In addition\, the course will guide an approach to (1) assess community resilience and (2) develop next steps for improved resilience. DESCRIPTION:There will be a CASFM joint social on June 18\, 2018\, to be presented by RMNASTT – THE ROCKY MOUNTAIN CHAPTER OF THE NORTH AMERICAN SOCIETY FOR TRENCHLESS TECHNOLOGY.  The social will be held at the Ale House\, 2501 16th St.\, Denver\, from 5:00-7:00.   www.alehousedenver.com \nPresentation Summary: \nAn overview of the various trenchless technologies available for the rehabilitation of storm water culverts and drainage infrastructure is presented.  Technological advancements and the growth and acceptance of trenchless construction methods are providing engineers and municipalities with more options than ever when considering structural rehabilitation of storm water infrastructure as a viable alternative to open cut replacement.  Cured In Place Pipe lining (CIPP)\, ultra-violet light cured CIPP lining (UV CIPP)\, segmental slip lining\, centrifugally cast cementitious systems\, structural manhole rehabilitation\, and other methods will be discussed. Technical considerations such as design thickness\, flow management\, installation procedures\, advantages and limitations of each method\, as well as inspection and QA/QC measures will be covered. Throughout the presentation\, the City of Aurora will provide perspective on the design\, selection\, procurement\, and overall experience with the construction of a variety of trenchless methods used to address storm water system rehabilitation needs throughout the community. \nBios: \nJeff Maier P.E. is the Director of Engineering at C&L Water Solutions\, a trenchless contracting firm located in Littleton. He is responsible for providing in-house engineering assistance and technical expertise for water and wastewater infrastructure condition assessment\, trenchless rehabilitation and new construction applications. Jeff is a Colorado and Utah registered professional engineer\, a graduate of the University of Michigan\, and has over 18 years of project management and engineering design experience. He is recognized as an expert in the fields of advanced condition assessment and trenchless rehabilitation of pipelines\, manholes\, and wastewater structures. He is vice-chair of the ASTM sub-committee on trenchless plastic pipeline technology (F17.67)\, is a National Association of Corrosion Engineers (NACE) Level 3 coating/lining inspector\, and currently serves on the North American Society for Trenchless Technology (NASTT) national board of directors. \nSwirvine Nyirenda  PE\, CFM\, PMP is the Principal Engineer at Aurora water. He oversees the rehabilitation and construction of the City’s waste water and storm water systems. He is a Certified Floodplain Manager\, Project Management professional and is registered in Colorado and Louisiana. His professional interest include the application of trenchless technologies in the rehabilitation and installation of new Stormwater and waste water systems. He is a NASSCO certified CIPP inspector and currently serves on the Rocky Mountain North American Society for Trenchless Technology (RMNASTT) board of directors. Swirvine has a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Zambia and a Master’s degree from Tulane University

DESCRIPTION:TRAINING LEVEL: Intermediate \nCLASS SIZE: Minimum: 20 Maximum: 30 \n\n\nCOURSE DESCRIPTION: \nThe National Highway Institute’s (NHI) 3-day Stream Stability and Scour at Highway Bridges course provides participants with comprehensive training in the prevention of hydraulic-related bridge failures. Course participants will receive training in conducting a stream stability classification and qualitative analysis of stream response and make estimates of scour at a bridge opening. \nMaterial for the course comes primarily from two Hydraulic Engineering Circulars (HEC)\, “Evaluating Scour at Bridges” (HEC-18)\, 5th Edition (2012)\, and “Stream Stability at Highway Structures” (HEC-20)\, 4th Edition (2012). The effects of stream instability\, scour\, erosion\, and stream aggradation and degradation are covered. Quantitative techniques are provided for estimating long-term degradation and for calculating the magnitude of contraction scour in a bridge opening. Procedures for estimating local scour at bridge piers and abutments for simple and complex substructures are also provided. A comprehensive workshop integrates qualitative analysis and analytical techniques to determine the need for a Scour Plan of Action for correcting stream instability and scour problems. For this 3-day course\, the host agency will need to select 3 optional topics (out of 8 possible topics). Course instructors will contact the host prior to the course to complete a pre-course questionnaire\, determine optional topics to be taught\, and discuss the course schedule. \nThis comprehensive training provides preventive techniques for identifying\, analyzing\, and calculating various hydraulic factors that impact bridge stability. Public and private sector engineers responsible for maintaining the integrity of highway bridges will find it invaluable. \nPrior to the beginning of the course\, participants are strongly encouraged to enroll in the following Web-based training (WBT) courses: 135091 Basic Hydraulic Principles Review\, 135086 Stream Stability Factors and Concepts\, and 135087 Scour at Highway Bridges: Concepts and Definitions. SUMMARY:CASFM Lunch 'n' Learn
DESCRIPTION:An integrated Decision Support Tool (i-DST) for life-cycle cost assessment and optimization of green\, grey\, and hybrid stormwater infrastructure \nThe goal of the project is to develop an integrated decision support tool\, called i-DST\, for prioritizing potential grey and green stormwater infrastructure projects.  Decision support tools such as this are needed by municipalities crafting stormwater management plans to meet diverse objectives\, while simultaneous minimizing economic costs.  The primary objectives of these management plans are flood control and water quality permit compliance.  However\, there are many other outcomes of stormwater infrastructure that can be considered\, such as life cycle environmental impacts (e.g.\, greenhouse gas releases) and additional benefits to the community provided by the infrastructure (e.g.\, urban green space\, air temperature regulation).  The i-DST is a software tool that is being developed with routines to quantify how different stormwater infrastructure scenarios are able to meet these competing objectives.  Some components of the module include a hydrology and water model\, life cycle cost estimation\, a life cycle assessment to compute environmental impact\, and the quantification of other community benefits. The use of regional defaults values of infrastructure costs\, materials\, and performance allow for application of the tool across the nation. \nSpeaker: \nColin Bell is a postdoctoral researcher at the Colorado School of Mines in the department of Civil and Environmental Engineering.  His educational history includes a BS from the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry\, an MSE from UNC Charlotte\, and a PhD from Purdue University.  Colin has focused research efforts on monitoring and modeling hydro-ecological processes of urban environments.  Specifically\, focus has been paid to exploring how stormwater management strategies effect stream hydrology\, water quality\, and ecosystem function.  In addition to this primary research\, Colin has worked to build decision support tools for both urban water managers and residents looking to minimize negative impacts of urban water runoff. \nTo register for this event: https://casfm.swoogo.com/lnl20180502 \nRegistration is $10. \nRegistration deadline is Monday\, April 30 at 5PM \nContact Holly Piza ​with any questions.

DESCRIPTION:The Association of State Floodplain Managers (ASFPM) Certified Floodplain Managers (CFM®) Exam will be offered at Southeast Metro Stormwater Authority (SEMSWA) on 8:30 am on Friday April 27\, 2018.  The address of the facility is: \n7437 S Fairplay St.\, \nCentennial\, CO 80112 \nIn order to take the CFM exam\, you must complete and submit the CFM Program Application Package to the ASFPM.  The forms are available on the ASFPM website www.floods.org under the Certification Program tab.  The fee for taking the exam is $100 for ASFPM members and $470 for non-members.  You may submit an application for ASFPM membership at the same time as applying to take the CFM® exam. \nSpace in the facility is limited to 20 participants\, so get your application in early.   In order to be accepted to take the CFM Exam\, you must submit your completed application along with the appropriate fee to ASFPM by April 13\, 2018 (2 weeks prior to exam date).  No walk-ins will be allowed unless authorized by the ASFPM Executive office. \nA Floodplain 101 class will be held in the same facilities the day before\, April 26\, 2018.  Both the test and the Floodplain 101 class will be held at the same location and will start at 9:00 am.  For both the class and test\, please arrive early enough to locate the facility and be settled in.  The SEMSWA office is located south off Arapahoe Rd off of S.
