SUMMARY:Emerging Professionals Workshop
DESCRIPTION:We have been working with the Army Corps of Engineers on The Emerging Professionals Workshop Program which will be presented by the Colorado Silver Jackets. The Colorado Silver Jackets is a cooperative team of state and federal agencies with the common goal of improving floodplain management through coordination\, expertise in technical services\, and hosting educational opportunities. This workshop will focus on introductory level soft skills to be an effective steward of Colorado floodplains. Plan to come out of this workshop with a greater understanding of differing state and federal agencies roles\, communication strategies with clients\, and Colorado’s pivotal approach to floodplain management. While our targeted audience is individuals in the earlier portion of their floodplain management career\, attendance is open to any interested party. As an incentive we have also been certified for delivering 4.5 Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM) Continuing Education Credits (CECs). \nPlease consider attending an in-person workshop at one of these locations. Attendance will be limited to 30 people per location: \nDenver-May 16th\, 2023\nColorado Springs-June 12th\, 2023\nGrand Junction-August 9th\, 2023\nAlamosa- August 24th\, 2023 \nTickets can be claimed at our Event bright Page for FREE. Link can be found in the flier here.

SUMMARY:UWRI HEC-RAS 2D Course
DESCRIPTION:Registration:\nhttps://urbanwatershedsresearchinstitu.regfox.com/introduction-to-flood-hydraulic-modeling-using-hec-ras-2d \n  \nWhen:  2 Day Course Thursday\, August 24th – Friday\, August 25th\, 2023\, 8:30AM to 5:00PM both days \nWhere: Mile High Flood District\, 12575 W. Bayaud Avenue\, Lakewood\, CO 80228 \n  \nCost: \nGeneral registration fee for this two-day class is $750.00. \nEarly General registration fee of $675.00 is available until July 24th \nDiscounted CASFM-RMAPWA member fee is $675.00. \nEarly CASFM-RMAPWA registration fee of $610.00 is available until July 24th \nThe low general registration fee and the discounted CASFM-RMAPWA fee is available because of sponsorship\, in part\, by the Mile High Flood District. \n  \nCEU’s: \nYou will be eligible to receive 1.4 CEU’s or 14 PDH’s for this course. \nYou will receive 12 ASFPM Core CEC’s toward CFM certification. \n  \nWhat You Will Learn: \nThis is a two-day workshop that will focus on the basic knowledge and applications of two-dimensional (2D) flood inundation modeling using the latest version of U.S. Army Corps of Engineers HEC-RAS 6.3.1\, which has been significantly improved and includes new analysis features. Some of these new 2-D modeling features include spatial precipitation and infiltration\, 2D bridge Hydraulics\, HEC-RAS Mapper Editing Tools\, USGS Terrain Download\, and many more.  Students will learn the basic theory and knowledge of 2D unsteady flow modeling and common applications. Learning-by-doing is the most effective way to learn techniques. More than five class exercises will be performed based on working through each key element step-by-step. The class exercises will be practically carried out by creating a 2D HEC-RAS model and delineating flood inundation extents. Every class exercise will be performed based on working through each key element step-by-step. The subjects that will be covered in this course are: \n\nIntroduction of HEC-RAS 6.3.1 and understanding of basic 2D flood hydraulic modeling and application.\nBasic theory and knowledge of unsteady flow hydraulics.\nCreate and run your first 2D HEC-RAS step by step.\nEditing your 2D computation mesh and cells.\nConsiderations and limitations of developing a 2D HEC-RAS model.\nCombined HEC-RAS 1D and 2D routing.\nInline and lateral Structures with 2D flood routing.\nHow to stabilize and optimize the computation results.\nReading and exporting modeling results.\nFlood inundation extents delineation using RAS Mapper.\nModeling errors and troubleshooting.\n\nWorkshops will include creating a terrain model and computational mesh using RAS Mapper\, setting up the initial boundary conditions\, adding structures\, stabilizing an unsteady flow model\, and exporting computation results and mapping. This workshop is suitable for engineers\, technicians and current HEC-RAS users responsible for flood inundation delineation and unsteady flow modeling and has been highly rated by hundreds of attendees.
